Wind Tunnel -- for iPad App Reviews

This is a good app BUT... While it works well and is perhaps accurate for fluid flow AROUND CLOSED SHAPES it does not correctly model fluid flow THROUGH shapes with openings. For example, draw a simple box and put a single small opening on the windward side of the box. The model will show flow entering that simple opening when in reality it cannot because there is no escape path for that fluid/air. Pressure inside the shape will build to prevent fluid entry. This is not mentioned anywhere and it is entirely possible with the tools available to draw scenarios like this and other "through flow" scenarios that I must assume are equally flawed. Please either 1. include this behavior correctly in your physics modeling, 2. prohibit the drawing of through flow scenarios/shapes or 3. warn users and potential buyers of this limitation. Adding this capability would be great for study of architectural natural ventilation scenarios.

I would like to say this is the type of applications that can take the iPad into more of an education and engineering role. Would like to see further updates to be able to use the ipad3 resolution and gpu power. It would be nice to be able to have a true drawing program that can use finer detail and more accuracy in the section creation and input. Even a grid reference in a new draw mode option would be nice. All in all it is a really cool program to experiment with and this program offers so many possibilities and directions to take a new direction in a mobile application. Now all we need is a $6.00 FEA program.

Units for speed and viscosity, skin friction + size would be nice. Also it should be able to open PNGs directly from the mailbox or over wifi like video safe or other apps like that. It would also be nice to have background images.

Very difficult task achieved by these developers with high success. Well worth the money. Can be used as a training tool, simply fun or even as a serious flow visualization tool. I use it often with students and young engineers. Highly recommended!!!!!!

Needs iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5 optimization!

This is far and away the greatest physics simulator app Ive seen. As both a physicist and software developer I think this is an amazing piece of work.

I am a PhD student in physics and I have enjoyed showing this app to others. The results seem to agree with my intuition and they can be quite beautiful. I only wish I knew more about the algorithm and how accurately it is solving the Navier Stokes equations.

Great application for Aerodynamicists. Qualitative aspects of complex flows are produced by this analysis App. Really a remarkable App given the computational and graphical constraints of todays tablets. Addition of Engineering units would expand utility to real design and analysis projects.

Demonstrates just how unusual but visually appealing iPhone apps can be. Mesmerizing. Potentially educational but no practical use. UI a bit unintuitive. Guilty pleasure to pass some time. One of the more costly apps (HD) but worth it. Anxious to see updates / improvements.

Fascinating program, hours of thoughtful fun. I wish the lines were skinnier, and I wish I could get it on my iMac.

If you are giving flight instruction, this is an awesome tool; but you probably cant afford six dollars.

Please fix the propeller thrust setting when in landscape mode. I am unable to adjust the setting until I turn the phone back to portrait mode. Im using a iPhone 6 plus.

I can only think on one thing that would make this app easier and that would be the ability to zoom. I have a ton of trouble making small changes.

Great tool for flight instruction. Anything from the winds interaction with airfoils, mountains, buildings etc to the recirculation of rotor wash in ground effect, out of ground effect and in confined areas. Seems to only be limited to the imagination.

I teach classes on rc helicopters and quad copters; this app is great for demonstrating propeller physics and their interactions with air and water. I love all the options for visualizing whats happening to the particles, really nice work! Would love for some sort of 3d version eventually, even if it wasnt real time and required baking.

This app is great! Lots of fun and great for understanding fluid dynamics! A must have!
